The experience begins at approximately 4:00 pm. Meet your English-speaking guide near Chunxi Road and begin at the Jiangnan Guan Street archaeological site. The original streets, drainage channels and building foundations are preserved beneath glass, but can be difficult to see clearly. Your guide will use curated images and digital visual materials to help reconstruct the Tang–Song neighborhood and explain what everyday urban life may have looked like centuries ago. Continue to Daci Temple, a quiet historic sanctuary surrounded today by the contemporary architecture of Taikoo Li. This striking contrast introduces one of Chengdu’s defining qualities: old traditions are not isolated from modern life but continue to exist within it. From the city center, follow Chengdu’s urban story toward the Jinjiang River. Walk through local riverside neighborhoods and observe how residents use the waterfront today—from casual social spaces and small streets to the city’s growing evening culture. Rather than simply visiting landmarks, you will learn how trade, waterways, religion and daily life have shaped Chengdu’s character. Pause for a simple local dinner selected for the experience. The meal is intended as an introduction to everyday Chengdu food rather than a formal banquet, and the dishes may vary according to the restaurant and season. Finally, your guide will accompany you to Dongmen Wharf, assist with your pre-booked cruise ticket and make sure you board smoothly. See the illuminated riverside from the water and enjoy a final view of Chengdu as the city lights come alive.
